After the comeback against Belgium, Montse Tomé took questions from a packed press room at the Ciutat de València stadium. An opening victory and a comeback victory  that was not enough for the ever ambitious Asturian: ‘I wish they had scored more and not got into this situation at the end of the match, though I must congratulate the team’.

Despite the many chances to score and domination for long periods of the match there was no success: ‘The pace of the ball was good but we want a more favourable match context to avoid what happened, you have to take care of the details especially at European level’ but the key for Montse was patience: ‘In Europe any opponent can hurt you. To have been able to be patient, to have kept looking for chances... and for them to have the patience to be able to do it pleases me. I value the girls very much, both those who started and those who came on to change the dynamic. This energy unites us and we have to keep working’.

And she spoke about the performances of her players in the press room, highlighting different names such as Mariona: ‘She brings a lot to the table, she interprets the spaces very well, she started on the right wing, we changed her side and she found space again and in the end we opted to play her inside, what she can bring in attack is a lot of passing, crossing, finishing and she is always adding new facets to her game. The intelligence she has in attack she also has in defence, she is a very complete player, with a great desire to win’.

The coach also highlighted the return of Alba Redondo to the Ciutat de València and her chances on the night: ‘Football is like that and the important thing is to generate chances and she generated them, we could have had more, not just from Alba. It was a beautiful day for Alba and for the national team’.

Along with the names of Claudia Pina, Martín-Prieto and Salma, she added that ‘the team did a lot of things well. The key word is adaptability, we didn't plan to go two down but the team found the answer and we are very happy with that’.

The coach made a final appraisal of the game with an eye on the next match against England on Wednesday at 21:00h at Wembley: ‘Positive assessment with things to improve and in the face of England, who are a great rival, we must prepare well for that game. We already have clear ideas and we're going for it’.
