In addition to the sporting side of things, next Tuesday’s match against Portugal at Balaídos will be a festive tribute to Galician women. As part of the “The Courage of Our Own” campaign launched by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Vigo will play host to musical performances by local artists who are sure to delight the crowd in the lead-up to the match against the Portuguese side.

One hour before kick-off, which is scheduled for 6pm, Kike Varela and the group Ferrinhas Bravas will take to the stage. The DJ and the traditional pandereteiras group will liven up the pre-match atmosphere with catchy tunes such as ‘Micaela’.

This musical celebration is part of the RFEF’s efforts to connect with the regions where the national team plays and will serve as a tribute to Galician women. This continues the spirit of the ‘As in the Sea, So on the Pitch’ initiative, which highlighted shared values like pride, hard work, effort, and determination—qualities embodied by both the players of the national team and the courageous women at the heart of Galicia.

For the current call-up, national team coach Montse Tomé included Galician women working in the fishing industry to symbolically complete the list of 23 players who will take to the pitch at Balaídos in pursuit of another three points against Portugal.

As part of its drive to promote women’s football, the RFEF is organising a number of events in Vigo, including these musical performances as a prelude to the match, branded buses featuring the campaign, and a “Box 0” initiative to highlight the courage of as nosas (“our women”).

Also joining the initiative is the first edition of the Legal Conference ‘Tribute to Galician Women’, which will be held a day earlier—on Monday the 7th—starting at 4pm in the exhibition hall of the Redeiras Building (Praza do Berbés, 11 – Third floor). The event will bring together prominent figures from the world of sports law for a well-rounded programme.

The Iberian clash between Spain and Portugal will resound with a message for Galician women, as the Federation continues its commitment to bringing sport closer to communities and shining a light on the values of the places visited by the national team.
