Amid the joy of achieving their objective, solidarity with the victims took centre stage in the moments immediately following Spain’s match against the Netherlands at the Mestalla.

A group of sixteen mayors from the municipalities most affected by last year’s floods met with the president of the RFEF after witnessing the national team’s victory in the penalty shootout.

Addressing them, as well as representatives from the Generalitat Valenciana, the Provincial Council, and Valencia City Council, Rafael Louzán took a moment to remember “all the young children who are still unable to play football on the pitches that were destroyed. Although we are not a public institution, we want to provide support, rise to the occasion, and stand by you on this journey. We know the beginning was incredibly tough for all of you, but we wanted you to be here today to witness Spain’s victory, which is dedicated to the memory of those who, sadly, are no longer with us.”

After several days of charity events and initiatives in Valencia, the town of Paiporta welcomed representatives from the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Dutch Football Association on Sunday. Both organisations attended the second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final, which, on this occasion, represented something much greater than just a football match.
