Santiponce, a town neighbouring Seville with just over eight thousand inhabitants, is home to La Cartuja stadium. In addition, the municipality welcomes more than three hundred thousand visitors each year as it houses a unique treasure: among its streets stands Itálica, the Roman city where the emperors Trajan and Hadrian were born, and which was the first permanent Roman settlement outside Italy in the entire Roman Empire, founded in 205 BC.

Before enjoying the Copa del Rey final, on Saturday morning, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, chose to visit Santiponce, where he was welcomed by the mayor, Juan José Ortega.

Alongside the town councillors, Louzán had the opportunity to walk through its streets and visit the Archaeological Complex of Itálica, its Theatre and Amphitheatre, as well as the interpretation centre, where he learned in detail about the way of life in the ancient Roman city which neighbours Hispalis.

Louzán and Ortega shared a meeting at the Town Hall, where the president of the RFEF signed the town’s book of honour and presented the mayor of Santiponce with a commemorative gift marking the final of the Copa del Rey between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF.
