The squad captains take centre stage on Spain Media Day
There was a sense of maximum anticipation at the Ciudad del Fútbol for the Spanish National Team’s Media Day, just four days before the friendly against Japan and six days before heading to Switzerland to take part in the Euros. The media spotlight was firmly on the five squad captains during the showpiece continental competition: Irene Paredes, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Mariona Caldentey and Olga Carmona.
The captains have been chosen jointly by Montse Tomé and all their teammates.
With EUROS mode fully activated, they were the ones tasked with answering questions from journalists representing dozens of radio stations, TV channels, newspapers, agencies and digital outlets. The World Cup winners and UEFA Women’s Nations League champions have only one dream and one challenge ahead of them: to add the continental trophy to their already expansive list of recent honours. The competition is taking place in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July, with Spain playing their opener on the 3rd against Portugal, at 21:00 at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern.
This Tuesday, at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, the official Media Day was held, generating enormous interest from all kinds of media outlets. The press were able to spend plenty of time with the internationals, who answered their questions for over an hour.
The team, who began their pre-tournament training camp last Thursday in Las Rozas, have one final fixture before heading to Switzerland. The clash is this coming Friday against Japan, currently ranked 7th in the FIFA rankings. From 21:00 at the Butarque stadium, Montse Tomé’s side are set to play their final match before the EUROS – a friendly that, alongside many EUROS-related topics, featured heavily in the interviews.
