Valencia last aboard the train to the Last 16
Valencia beat a battling Eldense team away from home to reach the next round of the competition.
Valencia started the game with clear ideas and a clear objective: to dominate the ball and to attack Dani Martín's goal from the opening whistle. Sergi Canós brought this idea into reality in the ninth minute with a beautifully executed goal after some good combination play and a perfect final pass from Diego López.
Eldense then managed to gain back the upper hand and were getting forward, creating several clear chances, but without finding the net. Just when the visitors were having the worst of it, Sergi Canós played the ball back to Diego López to score the second with his first touch, also into the top corner, taking the game to the break with a tricky advantage to overcome on the scoreboard.
The second half started with the Alicante team wanting to show that they had not thrown in the towel in this Copa del Rey. Pressing high up the pitch, the home side were looking to steal the ball quickly, go on the attack and close the gap on the scoreboard. But the scoreboard remained unchanged, giving the team from the capital of the Valencia region the victory and the qualification.
Following the win for Valencia CF, the following teams have qualified for the next round: Pontevedra CF, Getafe CF, Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, Real Betis Balompié, CA Osasuna, UD Almería, FC Barcelona, Athletic Club, Club Atlético de Madrid, Ourense CF, Elche CF, RC Celta de Vigo, Real Sociedad de Fútbol, CD Leganés, Real Madrid CF and Valencia CF.
Of these, only Elche and Almeria represent the Second Division, Ourense are the survivors of the First Federation and Pontevedra CF is the only team from the Second Federation. The rest are teams from the top flight of Spanish football.
