The headquarters of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), located in the Paraguayan municipality of Luque, within the Greater Asunción area, hosted a productive working meeting between the presidents of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Argentine Football Association.

Rafael Louzán and his counterpart Claudio Tapia were joined by representatives from UEFA, represented by Deputy Secretary General Giorgio Marchetti, and from CONMEBOL represented by Secretary General José Manuel Astigarraga, with the aim of aligning positions regarding the search for a date and venue for the next edition of the CONMEBOL–UEFA Champions Cup.

The match, known as the Finalissima, will soon be contested by the current winner of the European Championships – Spain – against the Copa América champions – Argentina – at a yet-to-be-determined stadium, from which the winner of the intercontinental clash will be crowned.

The Argentines, who also lifted the World Cup trophy in Qatar in 2022, and the Spanish national team are set to star in a spectacular Finalissima that will also herald further collaboration between the two nations in view of their joint involvement in organising the 2030 World Cup, which Spain and Argentina will host alongside Morocco, Portugal, Uruguay and Paraguay, in what will be FIFA’s flagship tournament held across six countries and three continents.
